Start Your Candy Wrapper Business - Checklist
So you want to start your own candy wrapper business, but you don't know where to start or what you need? We've compiled this simple checklist that will outline the basic basics you will need to get started. As always, if you have a question about anything, please consider joining our forum, where you can get almost instant answers to all of your questions.
The List:
TOOLS
-- Computer (you already have this or you're not able to read this list) -- Color Printer: Can be ink jet or laser, it's really up to you. -- Cutting tools: Can be scissors, cutting board, rotary cutter, paper trimmer or even a simple utility knife. As long as you can get a clean straight cut, use what you prefer. -- Adhesives: Most people start out using a standard glue stick. While these work fairly well, they can be messy. Consider using a double-sided tape or tape roller (like what is used by scrap bookers). It's much cleaner to work with. -- Ruler - a good steel ruler is almost a necessity. Use this for scoring fold lines, providing a cutting guide, and more. -- Stapler - used for securing mint books
SUPPLIES
-- Paper - you will want to use a higher quality paper than standard copy machine paper. To make your wrappers really stand out, many people use a glossy paper for most all of their wrappers, and a heavier card stock or cover stock for products like Mint books. -- Candy - you will definitely want to invest in some of the more commonly used candies so that you are able to test out your creations. A good selection would include 1.55 oz Hershey's Chocolate Bars, Hershey's Assorted Miniatures, individually wrapped Lifesavers Mints, Lollipops and Snack Size candy bars. -- For Candy cake and Bouquet supplies you can get everything you need right here.
SOFTWARE
-- A desktop publishing program of some sort is used by many. Examples of these would be: Page Plus, Print master, Print shop, and Microsoft Publisher or -- A graphics editing program. The most popular are Paint Shop Pro and Photo shop or -- A word processing program. You can personalize and print your wrappers using programs such as Microsoft Word or Corel WordPerfect. -- A financial software package of some sort to track income and expenses. You can use something as simple as a spreadsheet or you can use a more advance program such as Quick books or Peach Tree. Just keep good records of your transactions for tax purposes.
WRAPPER TEMPLATES
These are predesigned wrappers that you can simply add personalization to and print. Crazy-Software.com has a wide selection of templates for different occasions, and there are other designers on the internet providing these. Something to look for is a high resolution (high DPI) graphic template. The higher the resolution, the better your finished product will print.
Chances are that you already have most, if not all, of the supplies listed above. Once you take care of this, the next step is to get legal! (See article on Starting your business for information)
